He was a fisherman.
Since Wu Jia Zhen died, his wife Yan Lan Juan is supporting their three school-age children and unwell parents-in-laws. Saddened by his death, his father fell ill and passed away in 2005. Their now 18-year-old son Wu Jian, 21-year-old daughter Wu Qin and 20-year-old daughter Wu Na Na had all left school to work, to support the family. Yan Lan Juan said: "I stay at home farming the land and looking after my mother-in-law. We still owe 200,000 RMB."
