The children of the victims write:
Dear Mr Tang and all the kind-hearted people of the Morecambe Victims Fund,
We are the children of the victims of Morecambe Bay disaster of 5 February 2004.
We would like to say happy new year to you! We wish you good health and prosperity in the family!
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to your help over the years. Your generosity enabled us to continue with our studies at school. We will always remember your great kindness, for all our lives!
Time has passed and we are growing up to know right and wrong. "They” have left us for six years now. During these six years, we have tasted the bitterness of life...We have become the "masters” of our families. We are too "fortunate” to be born into and grow up in peasant families...Our government's concern for "face” meant that our families were prevented from seeking help to raise our living standards... In adversity, our parents had nowhere to turn to. They faced the land with their backs to the sky...giving their labour (to farming) all their lives. To improve our life, they had to leave their hometown and go to another country to sell their hard labour. When they lost their lives, the families became much burdened... The pain of watching our mothers and relatives suffer and try to pay off the debts is unbearable. We wanted to leave school early and go out to work, to help them solve the problems for the families.
When we heard that you are once again fundraising for us orphans, we couldn't help feeling so grateful to you all!
...we are especially grateful to uncle Tang!
We heard that you not only helped us with money but spent your time to organize the event...Your selfless devotion and high morals are most worth learning from. We will treasure this very meaningful subsidy for our education. We will see you as our model to learn from...We will work hard to raise our level of education, so that we will be able to give back to society...We will not let you down.
With our warmest wishes and gratitude,
Children of Morecambe Bay victims
