Cao Chao Kun, 35
From Fuqing of Fujian
He was a farmer. His wife Zhao Xiao Mei said: "I am struggling to support two children of ours - our 17-year-old daughter Cao Mei Yun in high school and 14-year-old son Cao Xuan Yong in primary school - and my parents-in-laws. We could hardly manage to live above subsistence level. We still owe our relatives 200,000 RMB while I'm trying to keep my children at school."

Autumn 2009

Widow of Cao Chao Kun:

The family lives on growing peanuts and her minimal income of 30-something-yuan a day as a funeral drummer. They haven't paid any of the debt.

As a solution to their harsh life, she is spending 100,000 RMB on agency fees and sending her 17-year-old daughter to work in the UK.
